World Environment Day 2025
5th June 2025 marks the 53rd World Environment Day – a day dedicated to highlighting the importance of protecting the planet and providing vital insight on the changes that we can all make to tackle climate change.
This year, the overarching theme is focusing on the effects of plastic pollution with an aim of encouraging people to adopt small, sustainable practices to drive change.
Now, we’re not naïve. We’re not saying that the decisions we make can change the world, but that’s not the point, is it? It’s not about doing the most or leading the way. It’s about doing what you can and embracing the sense of pride that comes hand-in-hand with playing your part.
So, with that in mind, we wanted to put together a quick list of some super simple ideas and actions you could try to make a small but oh so important difference.
Go for Solar
It’s no secret that we’re a fan of the odd solar light or two. Why spend money and waste electricity when you could utilise the power of the sun? Save the pennies and the planet with stylish solar accessories.
Make the Most of the British Weather
We’re not exactly blessed to live in the driest, warmest country, but that doesn’t mean our garden and outdoor spaces don’t deserve a bit of love and TLC! Why not collect the ever-flowing rainwater in an external tank, then when the heat wave does eventually strike, you have fresh, natural water on tap to feed your lawn and plants rather than cranking up the water bill.
Reusable Over Disposable
There’s nothing cute about single use plastic, and who wants to spend an extra 30p on bags anyway? Reduce the waste and opt for reusable bags, bottles and everything in between. Bringing a few Bags for Life and reusable containers along for your weekly shop is a quick, easy and achievable change that pays for itself. You can even get your milk delivered in reusable glass bottles to be used over and over and over again, rather than big bulky bottles.
Feed the World
Food scraps and waste is a tasty treat for your garden and outdoor space. Compost your food waste rather than tossing it out to help support the growth of plants and feed the local wildlife.
Utilise What You Have
Did you know that a lot of the basic cleaning products on the market today contain chemicals that are harmful to the environment? Not to mention they can cost a pretty penny AND encourage single use plastic. Why not utilise what you have in the cupboards to clean your home? Did you know that vinegar dissolves limescale? Or that the natural acidity in lemon and other citrus cuts through grease with a fresh and fragrant hit? Baking soda, corn starch, coconut oil and even salt can do wonders if you know how.

As a small, family-run business, we’re keen to do all we can do to make an impact, and we’re proud to have made a few simple, subtle differences in the background that can help, even a little bit.
Like replacing all our plastic packaging with paper or cardboard, or opting to repair pallets or faulty products as opposed to chucking them – and, if they can’t be saved, separating and recycling them appropriately. From expanding our sustainable employee benefits and increasing the amount of recycling units across head office and warehouse, we’re working towards a brighter future.
