What's the difference between ConnectGo® and ConnectPro®?

We're often asked what the difference is between ConnectGo® and ConnectPro® and why one might choose one over the other. Both are impressive connectable lights systems, but each has its own unique features and advantages. The table below outlines many of these, whilst we also compare the systems visually further down the page.

Cable thickness

One of the key differences between ConnectGo® and ConnectPro® is the standard cabling on the systems. ConnectPro® by default uses a thicker, rubber cable that is designed to be more durable. This is required, of course, because the ConnectPro® system runs off 240V.

ConnectGo®, by comparison, uses a transformer to step the voltage down from 240V to 31V and, as such, uses a thinner PVC cable (note: there are some rubber cable options for ConnectGo® too). This does have some advantages, as it makes it easier to put through UPVC doors and windows which can then still be closed, unlike with thicker cable. It does generally mean that ConnectPro® is seen as the more durable, harder wearing system however.

Starter cables versus transformers

As mentioned above, ConnectGo® uses a transformer to step down the voltage from 240V to 31V. This is done using one of a few different sizes of transformer, with larger transformers able to power more LEDs than the smaller ones. Transformers are physically larger in size than the starter cable that powers the ConnectPro® system, and some people do find that the small ConnectGo® transformer plug does not fit into smaller outdoor sockets. This is not an issue with the ConnectPro® starter cable (which doesn't need a transformer), or with medium or large ConnectGo® transformers, where the transformer is separate to the 3-pin plug. This is illustrated in the images below.

Functions

As indicated in the overview comparison table above, ConnectGo® supports multiple functions, whereas ConnectPro® lights can only be (static) on or off. The functions that ConnectGo® lights are able to perform are: Combination, In Waves, Sequential, Slow-Glow, Flash, Slow Fade, Twinkling, and Steady On. These are controlled using the transformer, or a controller attached to the transformer, and a memory feature is included meaning that the previous setting is remembered.
