Halloween

The only thing that won’t give you a fright in this Halloween category is the price. With more and more people embracing this somewhat unique celebration on October 31st each year, things like Halloween Lights and Halloween Decorations have become increasingly popular. Parties are now the norm particularly among today’s youth and decorating the venue with things like Halloween candles for instance, is seen as a necessity.

Halloween is believed to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival Samhain (when the New Year was celebrated), with people wearing costumes and lighting fires to scare away ghosts who it was believed would return from the other side. Some hundreds of years later November 1st became All Saints’ Day, a time to honour saints and martyrs that included some elements of Samhain. The night before this day was originally known as All Hallows’ Eve, which later became Halloween. Of course over time the celebrations have moved somewhat away from these origins, but dressing up still remains as does the association with witches, ghosts and other scary things. Trick-or-treating was introduced and Halloween decorations, including lights, often feature the colours most typically associated with the occasion: orange, green, purple and black to name but a few. Pumpkin lights, illuminated spiders and ghosts, plus a myriad of other spooky decorations are now readily available.
