Our top 5 glamping tips- for the glamorous camper
In case you’ve never heard of glamping (if you haven’t, where have you been for the past five years??), it’s the art of transforming your traditional, back to basics camping trip into a glamorous and luxurious experience, where you can still enjoy the benefits of being immersed in nature, without forgoing any creature comforts. We’ve selected our top 5 tips for how you can get the most out of your first, or next, glamping adventure.
Pick your plot
No true glamper would be caught dead on lumpy ground, so assess the terrain, make sure you’re picking both the smoothest patch and one with soft enough ground that you’ll be able to stick your tent pegs in securely, without breaking a nail.
No budget bedroom
On a glamping trip, the one place where you need to throw the budget out of the window is the bedroom. No scrimping and saving, no cutting corners, this is the place for all-out luxury in true glamping style. Unless you’re staying in a glamping pod or treehouse hotel, you’ll have to provide your own mattress, and your super king from home will be impossible to transport, so you’ll need a good quality air bed – one with an electric pump, powered by your car preferably; we want minimum effort after all!
Next up, the bedding. A luxury mattress topper over the air bed will amp up the comfort whilst also stopping the cold rising up from the ground. For your covers, you can either go with a heavy duty 13.5 tog goose down duvet for instant warmth, or layer up the blankets and faux fur throws for a chic, yet snuggly, eclectic look.
Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!
With glamping, it’s all about the aesthetic, so make sure you pay special attention to the accessories you use in your tent. First and foremost, cushions – and plenty of them! Take along a range of sizes and styles, and go for a variety of colours too for a truly bohemian look. You’ll need some floor cushions and a good few scatter cushions to achieve full glampsite status. Another accessory that has quickly become a glamping must-have is bunting; whether handmade or pre-made, a swag or two of cute micro flags will turn your tent into a home.
Practical magic
Although of course we’re biased, we believe the ultimate glamping essential is lighting. Obviously, you’re still going to need practical lighting when glamping, but you can have so much more than just your trusty torch and lantern. Fairy lights and festoons are perfect both inside and outside the tent, providing much needed illumination whilst being easy on the eye! They also look incredible hung between trees to create a canopy of twinkling stars, for a magical lighting effect. Battery or solar-powered lanterns are great to line walkways, making the perfect guide as you make your way back to your tent in the night, and a solar charging system provides bright emergency light whilst ensuring your essential electronics are always charged.
Sensible over style
Obviously, when we’re talking glamping, we are mostly talking about comfort and style and how to bring these into the great outdoors. However, you need to make sure you’re still being sensible, always take weather conditions into consideration when choosing your tent. In all seriousness, no matter how glamorous it looks on the outside, if it starts to rain (as it so often does in the UK) that single skin yurt is just not going to cut it. Let’s face it, nothing says glamping fail more than you fishing your belongings out from your tent!
