How to: Fit Cut to Length Rope Light

Featured Inspiration
Published: 2nd Jul 2025

Written by: Jess Pacitto

Looking to achieve an effortlessly clean look that will instantly elevate your outdoor space? Look no further, because our exclusive range of bespoke Cut to Length rope light will guide the way to elegant, stylish living.

Although this look appears to be lavish, it’s super easy to achieve – if you know how.

In this handy How To guide, we’ll be sharing our top tips to help you replicate this glamourous look, and it’s much easier than you think!

Meet the Family

First thing’s first – you need to pick your lights.

All of our Cut to Length lights are bespoke to Festive Lights and are part of our cutting edge ConnectPro® range. IP65 rated for both indoor and prolonged outdoor use, Cut to Length lights are the ideal choice for those looking for permanent, impressive lighting.

What makes the Cut to Length range different from the rest of our connectable lights is the fact that you can order exactly what you need for your display – no left-over lights, no feeling left short – you measure, we cut. It’s that simple.

But what rope light is right for you depends on what you intend to use them for…

Cut to Length Rope Light

The original Cut to length light – these Cut to Length Rope Lights feature our exclusive ConnectPro® LEDs in a variety of different colours.

Perfect for both indoor and outdoor use, these lights inject a subtle glow that will make a difference without taking centre stage. They’re great for using beneath kitchen counters or around BBQ areas for an effortless glow.

Cut to Length Neon Flex

Bolder. Brighter. Cleaner. Cut to Length Neon Flex is the smoothest option of the range. A consistent chain of light, you don’t see individual bulbs, but rather a strip of solid, ultra-bright light.

Neon has been a growing trend for years, and one we’re seeing more and more of both inside and outside the home. We used Neon Flex in this shoot as we wanted the lights to be the focal point of the shot, but it’s often used in children’s bedrooms, bathrooms and computer suits for a futuristic glow.

Cut to Length SMD LED Strip Lights

SMD LEDs are much brighter than the traditional LED bulb, which makes these Cut to Length SMD LED Strip Lights a brighter alternative to the traditional rope light.

Perfect for creating a bold look, these lights will effortlessly stand out amongst the rest. Often used in architecture, we’re seeing their bright and vibrant glow be welcomed into weddings, parties and celebrations more and more each year.

Get the Look

  1. Measure the space that you want to illuminate. Try and get this as close to the edging as possible to ensure that the rope light looks as tight and sharp as possible – this will create a much cleaner finish.
  2. Choose your lights (this is the fun part). We’ll cut your choice to the exact measurement provided in 1m increments.
  3. Once your lights arrive, simply click them into the PVC Strip Mount – they’ll slip in effortlessly. Continue to do this until all lights are securely in place. If you reach a corner, not to worry. Simply measure up, cut the mount where needed and continue.
  4. As soon as you’re happy that your lights are fit, now it’s time to secure them to the edging – this is vital if you’re planning a permanent installation. Grab your mounting clips and screw them into place with the screws provided.
