Top 3 Home and Garden Security Tips29th Feb @ 11:33Back in November 2011, numerous newspapers published articles about a certain criminal who’d finally been caught and served with the charges he deserved. Nothing to strange about that. But the lengths to which our criminal friend went to boost his good reputation were certainly remarkable. He provided a complete list of all the criteria he (and many of his colleagues) habitually tick off the list when assessing homes as to their suitability as a target. 1. The absolute best thing you can do to deter a criminal (according to a criminal, himself) is to make it clear you have a dog. Any sign of a canine buddy and most would-be thieves apparently head for the hills (and an easier target!) A leash hung on the wall, dog toys scattered around etc – who knew your pet’s messiness (or imaginary pet’s messiness) could be so beneficial! 2. Criminals loathe to be seen. Lighting – decorative solar garden lighting, security lights etc – rank second on the list. Most criminals prefer to operate in darkness. Even decorative solar lights or outdoor fairy lighting that highlights any escape routes can be off-putting for criminals, who don’t want to be seen making their getaway. 3. Gravel and other noisy outdoor flooring is exceptionally troublesome to the typical burglar. As is thorny foliage and dense planted areas that minimise escape route opportunities. According to our friendly neighbourhood burglar, there are enough vulnerable homes in the U.K for criminals to simply avoid potentially troublesome homes in favour of those less equipped.
