Buying Christmas Lights13th Dec @ 11:36 When they are wrapped around a beautifully decorated tree, there’s something really quite mesmerising and magical about Christmas lights. Buying the right lights is of course essential, so here are some things that you might like to consider before making any purchase.Types The main thing to consider when buying Xmas lights is what type you want, and these days that means choosing between incandescent lights or LED’s. Incandescent bulbs are relatively cheap and quite easy to source, whereas LED bulbs are more energy efficient and last a lot longer. LED lights can be a good long-term investment as their energy efficiency can help you to save money on electricity bills over time. Styles There are many different styles of lights to choose from including single colour lights, multiple colour lights, flashing lights and novelty lights. Using single colour lights (i.e. all-white or all-red) can be a great way to achieve a more elegant and ’classical’ Christmas vibe, whilst multiple colours are especially useful when trying to create a specific decorative theme. Novelty and flashing lights are always good value and items such as icicle lights, bubble lights and mock candles can be very effective in helping to add a touch of humour to your tree decorations. Number There is an unofficial estimate that allowing 75 bulbs for every foot of your tree’s height will ensure you have roughly the right number of lights needed to create that perfect illuminated look (double it if you’re using miniature bulbs).
