Why should we use solar energy?

25th Mar @ 15:40 Everyone is much more conscious these days about recycling and saving energy. We know that we have been complacent with waste and with the planet’s resources, and there has been a recent push for renewable energy.

Renewable energy is what, ideally, the human race would like to be running on. This is opposed to using up fossil fuels – which we have been doing in excess for the last hundred years or so. Fossil fuels are things like petroleum, oil and coil. They are so called because they take millions of years to form, and are made up of the fossilised remains of dead plants and animals by being exposed to head and pressure in the Earth’s crust.

These are non-renewable as they take such a long time to form, with their reserves becoming used up far quicker than new ones are formed. When fossil fuels are burned, they produce a high percentage of carbon dioxide, which is proven to be harmful to the ozone layer.

Electricity is powered by power stations, which use fossil fuels to create the power to run electricity. So, by using too much electricity, we are using up natural non-renewable power sources.

One of the key renewable power sources is solar power. This is where a panel takes energy from the sun’s rays and converts it into electricity which can be stored in a battery or used immediately. Either way, as it is from the sun, you can use it all day every day with no damage to the planet or the sun.
Solar lights are a great way to substitute solar electricity for fossil-fuel-electricity, as they can store the energy in a battery, and be switched on when it’s dark.
