What’s all the hype over solar lights?24th Feb @ 14:00 I’m sure you’ve heard that we are using up the Earth’s natural resources. That pollution is damaging the atmosphere and the ozone layer, and that mankind is destroying the planet. Some of this is a little extreme, but the essence is the same.Recycling has really started to take off, and is making a huge difference to the amount of oil, coal and wood being used. People are also trying to be more eco-friendly and ‘green’, by using less fuel in their cars, using lower wattage bulbs and only using as much water as they need. One way of helping to benefit the planet is by using renewable energy. Wind farms are springing up all over the country, and road and traffic signs seem to be accompanied by solar panels. One way that each of us can help is to use solar lighting in our homes and gardens. Solar power comes from the sun, and is absorbed in a solar panel. This panel will convert the energy into electricity and charge a special kind of battery. Once the sun has gone down, this battery will power the light bulbs using the energy is collected during the day. The same thing will happen the next day, and the next day, and the next.
