Christmas Tradition15th Oct @ 11:30 The tradition of the Christmas tree goes back centuries, and whilst today, many people choose artificial Christmas trees orpre lit Christmas trees for convenience, the traditional tree has always been some type of evergreen coniferous tree. Christmas trees are used both indoors and out, and Christmas tree decorations traditionally consisted of candles affixed on the tree. Nowadays, when many of us live in homes which could not accommodate, many such homeowners uphold the Christmas traditions by opting to buy slim artificial Christmas trees which are convenient, easy to erect and place in most spaces and are less damaging to carpets than real trees as their plastic spines do not drop off over the course of the festive season. The legend of the Christmas tree in Christian tradition arises with the story of St Boniface in Geismar in Germany, sometime in the 7th-8th century AD. According to local legend, he cut down the tree of Thor in order to prove to local tribesmen that the tradition of their Norse Gods being omnipotent was false. The tree which he cut down was an old oak, but to his amazement, a resilient fir tree began to grow in the roots of the old oak. This was the first Christmas tree, and St Boniface recognised this event as a sign of faith, and thus, the humble Christmas tree became one of the most famous Christian symbols. Therefore, the next time that you order a tree from our website, you can be assured that you are supporting a very valued tradition.
